Several Bahamian organizations have been noted in the press recently raising concern about the Government's proposed amendments to The Bahamas' Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations (see: Tribune June 29th, Nassau Guardian June 23rd). While improvements may be warranted, the concern about the proposed amendments is that in their current form they will come at a cost: lack of transparency and community involvement on one side, and additional administrative burden on the other.

Friends of the Environment believes that community consultation is essential to development that supports the long term sustainability of our environment, culture, and well-being and we encourage the government to revise the proposed amendment to ensure this is done in a transparent and consistent way.
