The Full Story
Learning Centre
We are immensely proud to announce the opening of our Learning Centre as of May 2023! This marks a major milestone in FRIENDS' recovery from Hurricane Dorian and the growth of the organization as a whole. The Learning Centre is a space for the Abaco community to come together to learn and be inspired towards positive action for the environment. The Centre features an expanded classroom, informational Exploratorium and various meeting spaces.
A New Look
Our Education Centre (est. 2007) was destroyed by Hurricane Dorian in 2019. The silver lining to this tragedy is that FRIENDS was able to reimagine a space that could be purpose-built and take the growth of the organization into account. The Learning Centre houses our offices and programs, offices for partner NGOs, and space for an emergency response command centre in the event of another catastrophic storm.
A Window to Abaco's Environment
We are developing our lobby and Exploratorium as spaces that can introduce the story of FRIENDS and bring attention to the importance of our environment and the communities that it supports. We will be building out permanent exhibits over the next couple years, but currently have temporary exhibits available for viewing. Come on by for a tour! We are open Mon-Friday, 9am - 4pm.
