Bahamas Fishing Rule and Regulations

On 3 March 1986, the Bahamian Government put into effect The Fisheries Resources Jurisdiction and Conservation Regulations to manage of the fishery resources of the Bahamas, These regulations provide for the sustainable harvesting of specific marine resources within the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. In addition the regulations prohibit the taking of Coral and provides for environmentally sustainable use of harvesting methods.

The harvesting of the following marine species is restricted as set by the regulations and enforced by the Department of Fisheries.

Crawfish (Panulirus argus )
Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata)
Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas)
Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta caretta)
Nassau Grouper (Epinephelus striatus)
Rockfish (Mycteroperca bonaci)
Stone Crab (Menippe Mercenaria)
Bonefish (Albula vulpes)
Queen Conch (Strombus gigas)
